Description
Jacques Reynaud died 1997 and was one of the true characters in Chateauneuf. A shy and private man, he was known to avoid appointments by hiding in ditches that lined the driveway leading to his chateau! He was recognised as one of the world's greatest winemakers and the legacy of Chateau Rayas is now continued by his son Francois.
The 13 hectares of vines face north and contain none of the fabled 'galets roules'. Only Grenache is used and the yield at around 15 hl/h is absurdly low. The wines are matured in the traditional 450 litre double-pi

Bright red. Fresh raspberry and wild strawberry scents, with suave floral and baking spice qualities adding seductive complexity. Medium-bodied red fruit flavors boast superb balance and sweetness, picking up silky tannins on the long, sappy finish. There's really lovely perfume, finesse and clarity here, reminding me of a high-end Chambolle or Volnay.
